Since May 2025, I’ve been apprenticing with master potter Kim Oaks at Savor Ceramics in Fort Worth. This experience has allowed me to deepen my skills in wheel throwing and hand-building while beginning to shape my own artistic voice. I’m also learning slip-casting, teaching, and the rhythms of running a working studio—lessons that are as valuable to my growth as the time I spend at the wheel.

Mommy Issues

What I love most about working with clay is the process—it is filled with magic. I can have an idea for a piece—hopes and dreams and plans—but ultimately, how it turns out isn’t entirely up to me as the artist.
My piece, Mommy Issues, was created in response to my Ceramics I “Emotional Baggage” project—which is exactly what it sounds like. Inspired by the recent realization that my lifelong co-dependent relationship with my mom was crumbling, I set out to create a ceramic diaper bag that resembled what she would have used for me in the late 1980s.
The less-than-ideal slab construction of the bag mirrors my childhood experience of mothering myself and my siblings—doing what I could with limited knowledge as to how to do it, and not making time to necessarily “do it right.” This resulted in broken seams on the pockets and only half of the strap surviving the kiln. Since I had invested a significant amount of time in the rest of the bag, I had to rush the glazing process. I wanted the look of the bag to symbolize my Gram—a woman who I only saw for two weeks out of the year, yet whose impact on my life was incredibly profound. For this I chose blue and purple hydrangea flowers—which bloomed beautifully at her house—to symbolize my gratitude as a mother figure in my life.
Having worked with my mom in therapy at the time I was creating this piece, I perceive it as something that demanded to be made—to be seen, touched, and acknowledged—in order for me to finally let go and heal.

Intentional Watercolors, A Collection
In the past year, the affirmation, “I am an artist,” has changed my life. I wrote it down, repeated it to myself over and over again, and eventually started to say it to others.
At first, I didn’t believe the words I was saying, but through repetition, they began to resonate and feel true. As I’ve incorporated more affirmations into my daily life, I’ve experienced greater healing, feeling more at home in myself than ever before.
My current body of work embodies the belief that we all have the power to find, and are worthy of finding, healing. I blend the beauty of nature with the practices of self-compassion and manifestation, aspects that have been part of my own healing journey. By incorporating the symbolism found in nature, the transformative power of self-affirmations, and watercolors made from crushed semi-precious minerals with healing properties, each piece of my artwork is created with the intention of being a manifestation of healing—for the owner, viewers, and myself.

Intentional Watercolors, A Collection
I grew up creating art in many forms, but believing I lacked the talent to be an artist led me to pursue a more “realistic” path in business. Eventually, I rediscovered my artistic calling through the affirmation, “I am an artist.” Although the words initially felt untrue and even silly, I persisted in repeating them. I wrote them down, spoke them aloud to myself, and eventually began sharing them with others. Gradually, these words started to resonate and feel true.
My current body of work embodies healing for both the artist and the viewer, blending the beauty of the natural world with the practices of self-compassion and manifestation. Each piece incorporates the symbolism found in nature, the transformative power of self-affirmations, and watercolors made from crushed semi-precious minerals, including Amethyst and Jadeite.
