My name is Nina Herndon, and I am an artist.
I started saying these four small but powerful words while studying The Artist's Way, in the fall of 2023. Before that, the last time was probably as a little girl—when I was young enough to create without being inhibited by self-doubt, perfectionism, and an obsession with what others think.
In the summer of 2023, I had made the big scary decision to leave my job and pursue art full time.
In the summer of 2024, my aunt—newly exploring ceramics—gifted me a bag of clay. I was immediately captivated: the feel of raw clay in my hands, the unpredictability of glazing, and the deep connection to the process itself. Over the next year, I studied Ceramics I and II at TCC, where I developed skills in hand-building, wheel throwing, and glazing through guided coursework and independent practice.
Since May 2025, I have been apprenticing with master potter Kim Oaks at Savor Ceramics in Fort Worth. There, I continue to refine my wheel throwing and hand-building skills while exploring my own artistic style. I am also gaining experience in slip-casting, teaching, and supporting the day-to-day operations of a working studio.
